Biography
Kevin E. Kerr (b.1992) is an emerging composer who was born in the greater Chicago area and now resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is currently pursuing a M.M. in Composition at Western Michigan University where he has studied with Dr. Christopher Biggs and Dr. Lisa Renée Coons. In addition to his work as a student he is also one of the managing co-directors of the Bullock Performance Institute at Western, aiding in the production of the annual 18-concert series, and a graduate assistant with the Multimedia Arts Technology program. Kevin completed his B.M. in Composition and Theory with a double major in economics at Elmhurst College where his primary composition instructors were Dr. David DeVasto and Dr. Mark Harbold.
Kevin has had his music performed consistently while studying at Western Michigan University on multiple concerts and recitals both in Kalamazoo and with his colleagues at Elmhurst College. His work for saxophone quartet, Dancing and Terraforming, was performed at the 2015 North American Saxophone Alliance Region 5 conference and was taken on tour with the Elmhurst College Philharmonic on their 2015 tour to New York to be used as an opener. Additionally, he has recently been commissioned by the Western Michigan Large Ensemble Award to compose a piece for the University Orchestra, to be premiered in February 2016, as well as the MacArthur Middle School Band to compose a piece for their upcoming Spring 2016 semester.
