Hello!
Thanks for stopping by my website! I suggest, if nothing else, you listen to some music. In fact, just to the right of this text is some to listen to! Please contact me if you have questions about my music or have an interest in performing it. Anyway, here are some other things I think are cool: -Douglas Osmun, Nathaniel Haering, and I are putting on a show at the Union in Kalamazoo on NOV. 9! My string quartet is on the program as well as several electro-acoustic works by Doug and Nathan. Come check it out! -I was recently named the winner of the Western Michigan University 2015 Commission Competition for Large Ensemble!! This means I'll be writing a new work for the University Orchestra to be premiered in the Spring semester of 2016!! |
It's on wax! Take a listen to my most recent composition performed by the WMU University Symphony Orchestra.

I am a composer who is in pursuit of a contemporary modernism drawing inspiration from composers such as Elliott Carter, Augusta Read Thomas, and Pierre Boulez. I attempt to combine a nuanced concept of the tradition musical parameters of melody and harmony while exploring the exciting new possibilities in timbre and form that our current performance practice allows. With my focus on chamber music, where these ideas are taking root, recent opportunities to compose for the large ensembles of the orchestra and symphonic band are an exciting chance to expand on the ideas I have already begun working on.
I am interested in the concept of musical development through the thematic transformation in the most abstract sense. By attempting to pin point what makes up any given musical fragment and developing those parameters in a recognizable, yet surprising way, I hope to create music that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally gratifying on every listen.
Additionally, although having written acoustic music almost exclusively, I am convinced of the importance of incorporating electronics into concert music for the continuing advancement of the art as a whole.
